Charles "Charlie" Maier

Maier, Charles A. "Charlie" Entered Eternal Life on April 5, 2018 with loving family at his side. Survived by his beloved wife Judy (nee Karrer) of 52 years. Dear father of Amy (Tom) Bennett, Mary (Bill) Allen, Christine (Rick) Herbert. Proud grandfather to Ashley Allen and Carson Herbert; brother to Michael; brother-in-law to Larry Oppenheimer, Jane (Karrer) Larson and Ron (Eileen) Karrer. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and great friends. Preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Grace (nee Kissner), first wife Betty Lou (nee Waschow), daughter, Pamela, sisters Betty Jane (Dwyer) and Nancy (Oppenheimer).
Charlie was born in Milwaukee on December 7, 1933 and lived on Pewaukee Lake for 70 years before moving to the Town of Delafield. He attended Marquette University and Pewaukee High Schools and the University of Wisconsin. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1960.
Charlie was a general building contractor with Charles Maier & Son Co. and Charles Maier Company. His major building projects included: Lapham Park Housing Project, Fine Arts Building at UWM, Kettle Moraine High School, and several grade schools in Waukesha County. His work with the Marcus Corp. started when their Outdoor Theater screen blew down just prior to the start of the busy summer season.. His work continued with them building and updating Big Boy, Captain Steak Joint and KFC restaurants throughout the state. His work also included repairing major fire projects in the state. In 1967 Charlie was president of the Association of General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee.
Charlie started curling at Wauwatosa CC prior to being a founder and president of Kettle Moraine Curling Club. He also was a member of Pewaukee Yacht Club, WYA, ILYA and became Bilge Puller #250 in 1979. Charlie started sailing Cub boats as a boy and went on to skip C, E and A scows. He was head judge at many ILYA, WYA and PLYC races and regattas; he was on the Board of Directors of the Pewaukee Lake Sailing School and a Pewaukee Lake Sanitary District Commissioner. He was a member of Western Lakes Golf Club and president of the men's golf league when it was Tumble Brook Country Club.
Charlie enjoyed hunting ducks weekends at his marsh on Lake Koshkonong, pheasant hunting in Waukesha and deer hunting up North. He had a sharp memory. was fantastic with numbers and had a special spot at the 5 O'clock Club and was quite the story teller. Charlie was an avid sports fan and loved watching football, baseball and basketball. The family wishes to the staff in the ICU and on the 4th floor at Waukesha Memorial Hospital for all their loving care.
Visitation will be held at St. Anthony on the Lake Parrish, Hwy SS and Oakton Rd., Pewaukee from 9 AM until time of service at 11 AM May 5th. Internment at St Mary's Cemetery, Pewaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Anthony's Parish, Kettle Moraine Curling School or Pewaukee Lake Sailing School.
