Colette Oliver Robertson of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, was a devoted mother, wife, gramma and great gramma who showed us what love looks like. Surrounded by family, she passed on peacefully in her home January 11, 2026, at age 91.
Born in Three Rivers, Michigan, September 6, 1934, she fondly remembered visiting her grandparents there and playing in the corner tower of their Victorian home. Her family moved several times during the economic crisis of the 1930’s, which led them to Madison, Wisconsin.
She and her high school sweetheart, Allan (Al), married young, in November, 1952, and raised four girls, starting out in Madison and then moving to Menomonee Falls.
Colette loved creating a nurturing and organized home life for their growing family. She lived her faith and brought up the girls in Sunday School. As an active mom of four daughters, she supported their activities in Girl Scouts, dance, and swim lessons. She encouraged the girls in their musical interests of choir, flute, saxophone, and piano, which followed her mom’s, (Madra’s) footsteps as a musician and composer.
As Girl Scout cookie chairman, she took on the monumental task of housing, organizing and distributing hundreds of cases of cookies. Camp Go-Seek welcomed her as a volunteer during summer day camp. With all four girls in dance lessons, she sewed many costumes for their stage recitals. She also sewed Easter skirts, curtains, and square dance outfits. She and Al kept active in the Promenaders square dance club.
Colette and Al moved several times for Al’s career and also so she could pursue an accredited 3-year course in San Francisco to obtain her degree in Christian Science Nursing. She served the nursing field for many years doing in-home and facility care.
Colette returned to the Falls to live independently at Village of the Falls after Al’s passing in 2013. In between, they made their home in Colorado, Nebraska, California, and Arkansas. In their retirement they travelled to many places including Alaska, Australia, London, and through the Panama Canal.
Colette held many positions in her church including Sunday School teacher, music coordinator, board member, and reading room chairman. She loved teaching the preschoolers and keeping their interest with marching to “Onward Christian Soldiers” and acting out Bible stories. Colette always kept a bag of teaching materials ready to teach all ages.
As each of their eight grandchildren turned 13, Gramma and Grampa invited them on a special solo trip. With much excitement, each grandchild anticipated their turn, and their own adventure.
She is remembered for her generosity to those less fortunate, and active commitment to upholding her values. The life examples she and Al planted in their family: kindness, bright smiles, resilience, compassion, living her faith, and loving unconditionally - are her enduring legacy.
Although we are saddened by her passing, she continues to flourish in living eternal Life with God.
Colette’s husband, Allan and daughter Teresa Eck; parents Madra Rix Oliver and Larry Oliver; and sister Connie Smith have passed on. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon McFall, Diane Wendelberger (Mike), and Brenda Goodsell (Todd). Her grandchildren are Jason; Sean and Charlotte; Bryan, Dave (Angie) and Scott; Rebecca and Gavin (Savannah). Her great grandchildren are George and Henry.
Colette’s family will hold a private Celebration of Life.
