Dorothy Virginia Unertl
April 5, 1935 — November 10, 2021
Dorothy Virginia Unertl, nee Dunnigan, 86, passed away on November 10, 2021 at Aurora Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin due to complications from COVID. She was born on April 5, 1935 in Wheeler, Minnesota to James and Evelyn Dunnigan.
Dorothy grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from North Division High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1952. Dorothy married John Joseph Unertl in 1955 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They were happily married for 31 years. She worked 42 years for Avon as a Sales Representative and District Manager, Duncan's Five and Dime Store in Pewaukee, Wisconsin and Pewaukee High School as a Printer and Lunch Lady. She especially enjoyed interacting with the kids at Pewaukee High School and chaperoned numerous school trips.
Dorothy was a member of the Red Hats and Lake Country Square Dancers. She enjoyed traveling to Ireland and other locations throughout the world and researching her ancestry. She received 26 Albee Awards from Avon for her sales and leadership accomplishments. She loved getting together with her card groups and birthday club.
Dorothy is survived by her children John (Lisa) Unertl of Oregon, Wisconsin, Denise (Paul) Hansen of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Daniel (Michele) Unertl of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and Patrick (Kristin) Unertl of Watertown, Wisconsin; her brother Robert (Susan) Dunnigan of Wilmar, Minnesota; her grandchildren Steven Fecteau, Cory Fecteau, Coley (Brian) Wisniewski, Andrew Unertl, John Unertl IV, Logan Unertl, Keegan Unertl, Matthias Unertl; her great-grandchildren Aly Fecteau; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents James and Evelyn Dunnigan; husband John Unertl; brothers and sisters Joan Ricciardi, William Dunnigan, Anna Hoban and Richard Dunnigan; great granddaughter Teagan Wisniewski.
A mass will be held November 17, 2021 at Saint Joan of Arc, 120 Nashotah Road, Nashotah, Wisconsin 53058 at 5:00 pm. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at 4:00 pm. A private burial service will be held at a future date.
In honor of Dorothy Unertl, any cash gifts received will be donated in her name to the Pewaukee Scholarship Fund.
