Gary William Hawk

Gary was born on November 25th, 1939, and passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2020. He was a resident of Delafield, Wisconsin.
They just don't make 'em like Gary anymore. He was a helluva guy. Tough as nails and an incredible sense of character. All that and more likely came from his parents back in Toledo, Stan and Velma. He was a part of Devilbiss High's Class of '57, graduating two years later from the University of Toledo.
With an Associate's Degree in hand, he headed to Milwaukee behind the wheel of a '53 Chevy, taking a sales job at Owens Illinois. This would become the beginning of a business career that would take him all over the Midwest. He'd close out his run forty-some years later as a partner of Fluid Management Incorporated, an environmental engineering firm he'd co-founded.
In those early, heady years on Milwaukee's East Side, Gary met the love of his life, Janet, and sold that Chevy to make way for a Triumph TR-3A. He'd be lucky enough to hang on to both for the rest of his days.
He had a fondness for dry rye Manhattans, Maibock beer and Hungarian goulash. And nobody could smoke a whitefish better than him. Nobody. The man was also a master of grilling his way through many a sub-zero Wisconsin winter, to boot.
Gary was known for his generosity, whether it was buying a new-found friend a beer, or hosting his annual Willow Jam gathering in the Northwoods. He'd even indulge those who mistook him for Mel Torme, not wanting to let them down that it really wasn't him.
He spent a number of years on the ice and in the clubhouse of the Kettle Morraine Curling Club – along with many others – with many dear, great friends. Or hoisting a mug at the Delafield Brewhaus, where he was founding partner. He was active with the Wisconsin Triumph Sports Owners Association, and was a fixture for the better part of five decades at Road America in Elkhart Lake.
All through life, Gary didn't believe in cutting corners, but in always doing the right thing. His loyalty in those he believed in was unending. He'll be missed dearly by those whom he touched along the way in his journey through life.
Gary is survived by Jan, his wife of 56 years, his son Scott, daughter-in-law Grace and grand-daughter Lucy.
