We five daughters called her "Amazing Jean" for a reason. Simply, because she was. Jean Ann Scanlon of Pewaukee, WI passed away on Monday Aug 30, 2021 at a sharp 92 years old, surrounded by her family.
Jean was an only child, lovingly raised by her late father William Harvey Varnum. She attended Brookline High School in Massachusetts. It was love at first sight for Jean when she saw Thomas F Scanlon and vowed to marry him. Proving her determination, Jean later proposed to Tom and they married in 1950. They are together again for eternity.
Jean and Tom had five daughters: Donna Janiga, Pam Gruber (Bruce Taylor), Susan (Terry) Pfeil, Diane (Dwight) Vickers, and Jill (Joe) Weidling.
Due to her loving, warm-hearted ways, Jean became an "adopted mother" to many of her daughters' friends. Jean also found the sister she never had in Tom's brother Joe Scanlon's wife, Ellie. The two of them loved to spontaneously break into song related to anything you were talking about.
At age 50, Jean returned to school and earned her LPN, proving her intellect and courage. She always set a good example and made her daughters proud. Jean worked many years at Moreland Medical OB/GYN where she made lifelong friends who called her Jean the Machine.
Jean will be forever remembered for strength and courage, her fantastic story and joke telling, but mostly for her generous loving ways. She was an inspiration.
Jean will be missed by her 5 daughters, 3 granddaughters: Tammie (Bobby the "Italian Nerd") Mazzucco, Brooke (Rodney) Armstrong, and Ally, 4 great grandchildren: Ron, Gabrielle, JT, and Coleson, great-great grandchild Freya, niece Sheryl, nephew Stephen, grandnephew Gus and many dear friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Adel B. Korkor and the staff at Davita for the care and friendship given to Jean over the past five years.
