After Eighty years of glorious life, Judith Fae Sherman (nee Hilberer), passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 3rd. Those fortunate enough to have had Judy in their lives were better for it. She modeled kindness, empathy, and love with all. From her cherished family recipes and gardening tips to her everyday life-lessons, Judy dispatched wisdom with a gentle patience. Judy shared her life and home with her husband of sixty-two years, Dewey, their six children, over sixty foster-children, and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Judy seemed to possess an endless and generous supply of love.
Judy's life began and ended in Pewaukee, where the Lake remained the focal point of her and Dewey's love. The story of their rare life-long love affair began as children when Dewey moved into Judy's Edgewood neighborhood on the lake. They grew up together and grew closer each year in Edgewood until their love resulted in marriage and the addition of their first five children: Even with such a full house already, Dewey and Judy had room in their hearts to also care for their parents, siblings, and nephews, adopt a son, and open their hearts and home up to over 60 foster children!
As a mom, Judy was generous with her love and time. Rather than punish, she corrected with a stern-look (the mom stare) and a gentle hand guiding her children from birth up through becoming loving parents themselves. As a grandma and then great-grandma, Judy tended to her family as lovingly as she did her garden and watched patiently as each blossomed. She radiated unconditional love, even towards strangers and as a result, was deeply loved in return. The amount of friends she collected over the years is testament to her warmth. Judy's absence will leave a hole in the universe that she would want all of us to fill. If she had one wish, it's that we all love deeper, speak kinder, and hold each other tighter, as she always did.
Judy is proceeded in death by her Parents, Fredrich and Lois Hilberer (nee Pawelk), her In-Laws, Dennis and Cynthia Sherman (nee Dampier), her Sister Patricia Camplin (nee Hilberer), her grand-daughter, Rebecca Nickey, and many more friends and family. Judy is survived by her husband Dewey, her children Shelly Nickey (Brad), Dewey Sherman Jr. (Donna), Fritz Sherman (Darcy), Tammy Sherman (Tom), Robin Sherman (Polly), and David Sherman (Dee) and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she adored. Judy's love touched too many to name all individually; So please reach out to those you know who will miss Judy to offer your shoulder and they theirs in return. Judy's love is what brought us all together and what will guide us through this difficult journey.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 9th Between 11:00 and 1:00, services at 1:00 pm followed by a reception at Machine Shed (Pewaukee) from 2:00 -5:00 pm.
