Karen Hanan, age 77, loving mother of four, and adoring wife of 60 years to husband Richard Hanan, passed away in the late hours of July 20th after a courageous battle with lung disease and congestive heart failure. She had an older brother, Chuck, and is survived by her younger brother, Daryl. Karen was born in 1946 to June Jobelius and Joseph Kopacka in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she eventually met Richard, and purchased their first home in Brookfield, Wisconsin, then spent the next 25 years enjoying life on Pewaukee Lake, lovingly raising their three sons, Tim, Rick, Ray and their favorite daughter, Terry. Richard and Karen retired in Edgewater, Florida where they resided during the winter months, enjoying time spent on New Smyrna Beach with her brother Daryl and sister in law Debbie Wallace. In her free time, Karen loved to cook, fish, go boating, snowmobile, shop, and play keno at the casino where she was known as the Keno-queen. Karen enjoyed spending time at various casinos with brothers and sisters in law Jim Hanan, Tammy Hanan, Kevin Hanan, and Laura Hanan. Laura and Karen had a particularly special bond. She shared lifelong friendships with additional sisters in law, Donna Hanan, Joanne White, and Pat Gurtner. Karen and Richard also loved watching and betting on horse racing with their dear friends, Russ and Arlene Kleist. Karen is a loving mother in law to Kimberly Hanan and Jessica York, as well as a proud grandmother to Emma and Olivia Hanan. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends who adore this absolute gem of a human with the most unique, genuine personality and beautiful soul.
