Keith R Akers, beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on 11/14/24 surrounded by his family after a short illness.
He was born in Saxon, WI, and spent his youth playing sports and spending time outdoors with his brother Dale. He was salutatorian of his high school class in Saxon, where he also was a star basketball player.
After High school Keith proudly served in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician on the USS Rupertus. He traveled the Pacific and Southeast Asia during his service and stayed active in the Tin Can Sailors of America and USS Rupertus alumni groups for the rest of his life.
After leaving the Navy, he returned home to attend Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, MI. There he met his future wife, Katherine. The two of them moved to Whitewater, WI to finish their degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. After completing their degrees, Keith and Kathy moved to Milwaukee and were married in 1971.
Keith was a CPA, financial executive and business owner during his career in Southeastern Wisconsin. He completed his MBA at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee while he worked.
A lover of good food and wine, Keith was always willing to share a drink and a story, or to talk about his beloved Packers, Badgers and Brewers. An avid sports fan, Keith shared his love of sports with his children, attending many football and baseball games with them.
Keith is survived by his wife Katherine, his sons, Ryan, Cory and Bradley, his daughters-in-law Melissa and Sarah, his brother Dale and sister-in-law Maxine, and his grandchildren Sophie, Xavier and Vesper, along with many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
Keith’s celebration of life will take place at 11 AM 12/23/24 at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
