Milo James Marks, 80 years old –Husband, Father, Grandfather. World Traveler, Navy Vet, Conversationalist.
Milo was a long-time resident of Pewaukee since the 70's. Milo was born on June 22nd, 1941 in Waukesha WI, to Milo Sr and Eunice Marks.
He grew up in a few communities around Waukesha County, and graduated from Oconomowoc High School in 1959.
He had an older sister, Mileen (deceased), who had moved from Wisconsin to California. Milo responded to many names, including Butch, Jim and Milo, Dad, Grandpa.
After Graduating from High School, he joined the US Navy, as a submariner. He was in the Navy from 1959-1964, and served in the beginning of the Vietnam War.
He sailed on the USS Sea Fox, and left his family with mysteries, never unlocking the classified information he held during his time at sea. After his time in the military, he moved back home, worked for JC Penney, Smartwear, Coke and Rexnord. Started working for the village of Pewaukee and stayed there for 33 years.
He met his bride, Patricia Klomfar, at a Christmas Party at the Playboy Club in Chicago, each was with a different date, but the attraction was there and they started dating soon after. On September 23, 1967, and they married at St Olaf's Lutheran Church in Rubicon, with a reception at the American Legion Post in Oconomowoc. Settled in New Berlin.
Moved to Pewaukee in the 70's. Milo became well recognized face in Pewaukee, biking all over the town & village, as well as knowing most of the homes and homeowners as he did water service for the residents.
Even late this spring as we drove through Pewaukee, he could & would rattle off the homeowners names, and glimpses of their life stories. Even as his more recent memories started to fade, the main stories of his life remained incredibly clear and comforting to him.
Everyone that met Milo, will remember his fondness for a good conversation, especially over a good meal or a great beverage.
Milo began his early adult life as a world traveler with the military, and ended his working years in retirement, by traveling to great places in the world.
There are some pretty incredible travels, where Milo & Pat not only saw the world through multiple cruises, but met amazing people that are still contacts they keep.
Milo lived an enviable life, full of people, places and conversations. A wonderful house that he turned into a home with his family, and years of even the most outrageous pets, yes a pig, squirrels, rabbits, cats, dogs – he may have grumbled, but enjoyed every most moments.
A great community where he lived and worked, raised his family. A country he served early with pride. He served on the Galilee Church Council and sang in the choir. He became involved with political causes he aligned with.
His Memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife of nearly 55 years, Patricia Marks; children Molly John (Ryan) and Jessica Marks; Grandchildren Sophia, Keaton and Adelyn; Niece Tina, and the rest of his extended family in Wisconsin & California.
The family wishes to thank Angels Grace Hospice, in Oconomowoc, for its tender care for both Milo, as well as his family.
