Scott Fredrick Hillmer

January 22, 1961 - May 7, 2026

Scott Fredrick Hillmer, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, died on May 7, 2026 in the Delafield home where he had lived for 61 of his 65 years. He was born in Waukesha, WI on January 22, 1961 to Don and Germaine Hillmer. From his earliest years, the path was not easy. At age 2½, he was pushed into a bee swarm by a neighbor child. The bees swarmed on him and fortunately, with a medical center nearby, he survived 180 stings and a three-day coma. We knew Scott had a unique way of seeing and reacting to the world, but it was decades before the term “neurodivergent” emerged. His Asperger’s Syndrome, with its very specialized gifts and traits, is included in that definition. It also led to many challenges both in school and employment. When Scott was 9, he was diagnosed with Perthes disease, a condition in which the head of the femur begins to collapse. After spending his 3rd grade year on crutches, the issue resolved and he resumed normal childhood activities. Scott was a 1980 graduate of Kettle Moraine High School where he ran cross country and track and was the boys’ basketball manager. At age 48, he was confronted with Parkinson’s Disease which he fought aggressively for 16 years until it claimed his life. He educated himself through group meetings and seminars and took PD exercise classes four days a week through the end of January, 2026. He was always the youngest person in the class. As an Eagle Scout, he lived a life committed to honor and service. Among his special memories were: family fishing trips to Canada; scout camp at Long Lake; the Milwaukee Symphony Pops; most recently family weeks in Chautauqua, NY; being a Packer season ticket holder and a devout fan of the KM Lasers and the MSU Spartans. He played church league dartball for over 35 years. Scott was predeceased by his father in 2010, and is survived by his mother Germaine, his brother Todd (Lisa), niece and nephew Lindsay and Hansen, all of Delafield. Further survived by his uncle, H. Spencer Holmes (Nancy) of Plymouth, MN, his Hillmer and Holmes cousins, his Faith Springs Presbyterian Church family, and loyal friends: Kim, Chuck, Jack, and Dan. Special appreciation for the compassion of Dr. Kathryn Gaines, the outstanding Aurora Home Hospice team, and the many cousins and friends who came to visit over the past month of hospice. A memorial service will be held at Faith Springs Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 24, with visitation from 1 pm until the service at 3 pm.
